Limo Coupon Deals to the Airport?

Posted by Michael Foilb on Thu, Mar 24, 2016 @ 10:37 AM

We've seen a lot of attention grabbing coupon offers for discount rides to the airport. What they typically fail to mention is that you need to add gratuity (usually 20% of the original cost), tolls, fuel surcharges, administrative fees and Massport fees. Suddenly, the great deal is not so great. We got a groupon today 2/21/13, for example with this fine print: cancellation fee may apply. Extra fee outside of service area. Extra $20 fee for services 12:30 a.m.-4 a.m. Gratuity not included. Those extra fees and "not includeds" can add up pretty quickly. Just adding the gratuity and off hours fee is $76 extra. If you add a surcharge for service area, tolls and fees, suddenly you're paying $100 more than the advertised price.

We don't roll that way. Le Limo gives you an all-inclusive price when you book with us. To build a reputation for quality and luxury for more than 25 years, you have to treat the customer with respect. That's just the way we do business...always have. Call us 24 hours a day at 800.287.8970.

Issues with Rogue Car/Limo Ride Apps

Posted by Michael Foilb on Mon, May 05, 2014 @ 03:27 PM

The new hot "trend" in the transportation world is the proliferation of rogue app ride-service companies. But while these companies are winning customers, they are stepping away when problems arise with their clients. When you hire their service, whether it’s a sedan or a limo, your payment goes to the app company, but to quote one of the bigger companies:

The provision of the transportation services by the Transportation Provider to you is…(an) agreement to be entered into between you and the Transportation Provider. Uber shall never be a party to such agreement.

Uber

So you book your ride and then the app company, the company that picks your driver, then tells you that they “shall never be a party to such agreement!” They’re saying they'll set up your ride, but they’re not responsible for it. That’s like the going to the hospital and having administrators say, “We’re not responsible for anything that happens between you and the doctor.”

So what do you do if something goes wrong? While negative incidents and lawsuits begin to pile up in the future because of the lack of proper insurance, driver qualifications, and vehicle safety, where does that leave the customer? There have been multiple reports of criminal charges against drivers. Do you think the app company is going to help you?

In Boston a licensed taxi cab medallions is valued at $600,000. Is it reasonable that these app companies don’t have to compete in that same space? Uber in Boston has been issued a cease and desist order by Division of Standards of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts which stated “until the National Institute of Standards and Technology has guidelines in place for GPS location technology,” the company cannot provide their application to the public.

Uber has ignored the state order.

In Cambridge, Uber drivers have been issued citations for operating an unlicensed livery service and for using a measuring device not conforming to state standards.

That said, there are several high quality livery companies that do take bookings from the rogue app companies. Just make sure you know what you’re getting. With the new ride share programs, anyone with a driver’s license and insurance can accept work from the app folks.

At a recent industry conference, one limo company president said, “I never thought the government would allow these companies to operate with commercial insurance policies. These companies will look you in the eye and lie (about their operations) and they haven’t come forward to be fully transparent … we have to get the facts out there,” he added.

Industry insiders predict that when the government sees that these rogue app companies operate illegally, don’t have the proper insurance or licensing, they will realize that they made a mistake and there will be changes.

So far there has been no intervention and no enforcement of law, so these companies are operating without proper insurance; they do not have driver training requirements or vehicle safety standards. There are DOT, DPU and MassPort guidelines designed to protect the passenger. There are rules about passenger limits, emergency escape hatches, fire extinguishers, drug testing, OSHA guidelines and more. Le Limo abides by those laws. We have professionally-trained drivers who are randomly drug screened. The drivers are our employees and they are in the sedans, limos and party buses that we own.

Without change, there will be a race to the bottom with price wars and no standards. We would like to think that safety and professionalism will be a key component of making sure limousine companies work the way they are supposed to.

Even though you don’t expect to be involved in an accident, make sure that you’re making smart safe choices when you get a ride.

Using a Limo to Make a Great First Impression on a Prospect

Posted by Michael Foilb on Mon, Sep 30, 2013 @ 02:22 PM

You’re trying to impress a client, you need to make a great first impression and your competition is trying to do the same thing. You need to stand out. Not only do you have to dress the part, present yourself with great aplomb and represent your company, you have to know when to go the extra mile in trying to influence your prospective partner.

handshake resized 600

When traveling with or hosting a prospect, your obligation, is to ensure that your potential customer travels in comfort and luxury. A major opportunity to making a great impression is to provide executive livery for all their commutes. Whether it’s an airport pick up, a business lunch, a meeting or a dinner, renting a limo is the ultimate opportunity to win new customers.

Do you really want your potential clients to wait in line for a rental car and then have to find their way to your office? Or have them wait in a taxi line hoping they’ll end up in a cab that’s clean and a driver that knows where they’re going?

This is where your distinctive thoroughness can give you a competitive advantage. Surprise your client with car service the moment their plane lands. Have a chauffeur in baggage claim with your prospect’s name on a sign. Give them the benefit of having a professional driver for their traveling. The driver will help them with their bags and make sure they get to the right location in style. Once they’re in the back of a luxury vehicle, they’ll have the opportunity to relax, make phone calls, answer emails or review work. Your clients will be grateful for the service you have provided for them.

Order the Right Car

Consider a luxury sedan, capable of comfortably seating up to three passengers with luggage. Whether it’s a Lincoln or Chrysler sedan, your prospect will love the high-end, pristine feel of the vehicle as they climb in the back. With leather seating, free bottled water and plenty of room to stretch out, their trip to the meeting becomes a treat instead of a chore.

A chauffeured SUV offers seating for up to four passengers and has space for even the most challenging sets of luggage. The pristine black interior with comfortable wrap around seating provides maximum comfort in a relaxed ride.

A stretch limousine is the ultimate in luxury travel for an important visiting client.  A limo makes the ultimate first impression. With its stunning appearance, it offers the utmost in interior comfort. Limos are equipped with leather seating that can accommodate up to 10 passengers. The vehicles have bars with glass stemware and bottle water on ice. There’s a privacy divider to ensure that the passengers have complete confidentiality and quiet in the back of the vehicle. There is also a DVD player and state of the art sound system for those who want to be entertained on their ride.

Impressing a prospect requires a lot of work, planning, proposing, presenting and providing them with the product or service they need. But starting their visit in the lap of luxury makes the kind of first impression that sets the foundation of a successful business partnership.

12 Tips to Help Get You Through Airport Security Faster

Posted by Michael Foilb on Sun, Jul 14, 2013 @ 09:33 PM

describe the image

  1. Know the 3-1-1 rule for carry-ons = 3.4 ounce (100ml) bottle or less (by volume); Prepare 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag of liquids before arriving at the airport; 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin. One-quart bag per person limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring. 3.4 ounce (100ml) container size is a security measure.
  2. Pack all coats and jackets in checked baggage when possible. All coats and jackets brought through the security line must go through the X-ray machine for inspection.
  3. Do not wrap gifts. If a security officer needs to inspect a package, they may have to unwrap the gift.
  4. Removing ALL items from pockets, as well as certain accessories, including wallet, belt, bulky jewelry, money, keys, and cell phone. Removing all of these items will reduce the chance of needing additional screening after exiting the machine. The officer viewing the image cannot see the passenger, so any irregularity that appears on the screen will require inspection to determine what it is. Dress for the screening metal zippers, eyelets, buckles, tie studs, cufflinks, and underwire bras may all trigger an alarm. Certain metal body piercings may cause the machines to alarm, which will result in additional screening.
  5. When in doubt leave it out…Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) have to resolve any anomaly detected at the checkpoint. If you trigger an alarm when passing through a metal detector or advanced imaging technology unit, additional screening and time will be required.
  6. Head Coverings: Travelers are permitted to wear head coverings and religious garments during the screening process. They may be directed to additional screening if the headwear or clothing (religious or otherwise) is loose fitting or large enough to hide prohibited items.
  7. Wear slip-on shoes. Travelers are required to remove shoes before entering the screening technology slip on shoes speed this process.
  8. Passengers with disabilities, medical conditions or a prosthetic device that prevents them from removing their shoes should notify a security officer. These passengers will be given additional screening that includes a visual and physical inspection.
  9. Have your documents ready.  Passengers are required to show their boarding pass and ID at the TSA checkpoint.
  10. Take infants and children out of baby carriers and strollers and take them through the metal detector. Strollers and baby carriers go through the X-ray machine with your bags. If possible, collapse the stroller before arriving at the metal detector.
  11. Behave. Hostile conduct, inappropriate jokes and threats are not be tolerated. They will result in delays and possibly missing flight departures. Local law enforcement may be called as necessary.
  12. Travel often with one airline? Get elite status. Many airlines offer the benefit for their frequent travelers, which allows them an expedited the screening process. Pre-Check security lanes at select airports may provide the benefit of waiting in shorter lines and a simpler screening procedure.

Getting in and out of Logan - A Guide to Airport Transportation

Posted by Michael Foilb on Wed, May 22, 2013 @ 04:03 PM

sedan

Whether you’re heading in or out of Boston’s Logan International Airport, you’re always looking for the best, easiest and most cost effective way to the airport. You can ask a friend, but seriously, friends don’t make friends drive them to the airport. So what are the options?

Drive yourself

Drive and park is an obvious option, but it’s not exactly easy. When you park at the airport for 24 hours and 1 minute the rate is $41, then you pay $27 for each additional day. It adds up pretty quickly. Plus you get to deal with the angst of driving in traffic, finding a place to park and then schlepping yourself and your luggage to the right terminal. When you get back you get to play, “find my car” in the maze of parking spaces. It can be a major hassle.

Logan Express

Parking is only $7/day and your round trip fare is $22. Not a bad option cost wise. However, you do have to get to the bus early, wait up to 30 minutes, drive in circles around the airport, stopping at every terminal and then drag your luggage on and off the bus. If you have the time and energy, it’s a viable option.

Taxi

For most passengers their first instinct is to jump in a cab. But, before you do that, you have to wait in a line and then hope the rate is reasonable. The fact is, the Boston Globe reported in March of 2013 that Boston has the “highest taxi rates among major US cities.”  And as far as insurance coverage goes, the Globe report said, “Passengers in city cabs are put at direct financial risk because cab owners are allowed to buy the bare minimum bodily injury insurance —not even half the coverage required of bike messengers.” (Le Limo has a $2 million liability policy.)

Once you hail a cab outside the airport, the driver will often charge you a flat rate. Well the flat rates aren’t regulated by the city. And to complicate things, different cab companies charge different flat rates. You don’t know what the fee will be until you get in the cab.

Le Limo

Sure we’re biased, but the fact is we quote one all-inclusive flat-fee based on the driving distance. We give you a rate that includes the fuel surcharge, the tolls, the Massport fee and the recommended gratuity to the driver. We also let you know if early AM fees apply.

We admit it, it might cost a little more to hire us, but you can relish the stress-free ride to the airport. Enjoy the comfort our just-cleaned corporate sedans, SUVs and limousines. Plus you get a professionally-trained chauffeur who will treat you with respect. Your diver will be waiting for you at the airport and load your luggage for you. No cab line, no surprise costs, no smelly taxi, no stress. Maybe it’s time to consider our flat-rate services to and from the airport. We offer an elegant option for airport transportation. Our goal is to help you return to an era of unparalleled luxury.
